With their powerful rhythm section, aggressive guitars and honest song writing, Alert the Medic is a captivating rock act based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 2008, the band received two ECMA nominations - CBC Galaxie Rising Star Recording of the Year and Sirius Satellite Radio Rock Recording of the Year, along with two Nova Scotia Music Award nominations for Pop Rock Artist/Recording of the Year and Group/Recording of the Year in 2007. They are also the proud recipients of the Pictou County Tourist Association’s 2008 Rock Star Award.
In September, 2008 the band had the privilege of opening for Canadian rock legends Our Lady Peace at Center 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia and were part of the D250 Rollercoaster Tour which included dates at Dalhousie & St. Mary's Universities; Acadia University; St. FX University; and Cape Breton University. The band is currently planning a return to the studio to record their third album in the spring of 2009.
Alert The Medic (formerly RUDY) have been diligently working at their music career since 2002 when they released a demo, "Found My Way", engineered by award winning east coast artist, Dave Gunning, and a full length album in 2003, with producer and engineer Fred Lays, aka "George Canyon".
After launching their debut album "Overtones and Undertones", RUDY steadily toured the Maritimes, building a fan base and gaining knowledge of the music industry. RUDY took part in the 2004 Alexander Keith's Halifax Summerfest, playing with such acts as Joel Plaskett, Crush, and The Trews. The band has also had the honour of playing at the award winning New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee in front of their hometown crowd from 2003-2008, sharing the stage with the likes of Wide Mouth Mason, Mobile, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, April Wine and Joel Plaskett.
With a growing fan base in HRM and beyond, the band started attracting industry attention, receiving airplay throughout Eastern Canada with singles "Miss You", "Hollywood" and "Simple". CHUM'S C100 featured the single "Miss You" on their Top 100 songs of 2004. An amazing six out of the eleven recorded tracks from the album have had major radio airplay.
From 2005, through the spring of 2006, the band concentrated their efforts, working on new material and planning the follow-up to their debut album. In early 2006, Alert the Medic returned to the studio to record their current self-titled album. The band emerged from production with not only a new band name, but an aggressive sound that punctuated their collective rock tendencies.
The self-titled album was recorded at The Sonic Temple and the Rock and Roll Brothers Basement, in Halifax. The project was produced and engineered by Laurence Currie (Sloan, The Gandharvas, Wintersleep) of Halifax and Toronto, with assistant engineer Darren van Niekerk of The Sonic Temple, and mastered by Noah Mintz (Broken Social Scene, Death From Above 1979, Hayden, Metric) of The Lacquer Channel in Toronto. Juno nominated Graphic Designer, Jud Haynes (formerly of Wintersleep), added his talents to the project, creating a truly one-of-a-kind album design for the band. This release offers a collaboration of some of the fastest rising names on the Canadian music scene.
Following an autumn release, their first single "Reported Missing" climbed to number one on East Coast radio, gaining national attention and garnering showcase spots at Music Nova Scotia Week 2006-08 and at the 2007 and 2009 ECMA's.
Alert the Medic’s blue-collared approach to touring and passionate live performances, make them a standout on the Atlantic Canadian music scene.
